Compression / Transfer Molding

Compression rubber molding is the oldest and most traditional molding process. Depending on the rubber and composite materials selected, it’s still an efficient option for many types of parts. At Moldtech, we also offer transfer molding, another popular method using fewer, less complex pre-forms. This allows us to provide tighter dimensional tolerance control. What Are Compression and Transfer Molding?

Compression rubber molding involves clamping two mold halves together, forcing the heated material to take the mold’s shape. It’s allowed to cure for a short period of time, and then removed from the mold. From there, a technician will detach any flash, and the part will undergo secondary finishing if needed. Learn more about the process here.

Rubber transfer molding also involves transferring a preheated material into a closed mold cavity under pressure. However, transfer molding uses one enclosed mold rather than two halves.
